The BiFrost (name may change)
The Bifrost will be a free resource for anyone setting out to make a career in the Creative Industries. It will be a website filled with free guides on everything emerging creatives need from portfolio building to networking and even business topics like ABN’s and Tax.
The BiFrost will be a catalogue of guides to help anyone make in the Creative Industries. Written from research from both the internet and established creatives throughout Newcastle, the BiFrost will feature up to date information from professionals.
When I decided to change careers and pursue writing, I came up with a plan. The first step was to go back to Uni and study creative industries as well as writing and publishing. My idea was to use the first year to get back into the habit of uni. The second year would be researching how to make it in my industry, preparing everything I would need to hit the ground running in my third year.
I got halfway through my second year and realised that all I had was a list of possible careers with no idea which one I would want to dedicate my energy towards. Eventually, I started freaking myself out, stalling before I had taken a step in any direction. Luckily, I come from a family of list makers. I decided that if I couldn’t make a decision then I would just have to make a plan for each of my potential career options (luckily for me, they were all somewhat interrelated).
Through making these guides for myself, I gave myself concrete first steps that allowed me to breathe a sigh of relief and walk forward confidently (if only on the outside). Since then, I have met so many incredibly talented creatives who hit that same barrier. I want the world to be able to see their work and for them to live their dream. I figured that I did it for myself so why not do it for others.
The guides will provide detailed, step by step plans to help people reach their creative dreams. The first group of guides will focus on the major areas that creatives occupy, commissioned artists, Graphic designers, writers, performers, photographers and a few others. The BiFrost will also include easy to understand guides for business-related topics such as getting an ABN, invoicing and budgeting.
Let The BiFrost be a bridge to help you reach your dreams.

Future Plans
After the initial set up of guides, I play to expand the range to include even more creative jobs and go further into specialities within them. Adding more of the planned guides to comprehensively cover a wide range of creative projects, jobs and lifestyles.
Of course, The BiFrost is only the first step. It provides people with some support as they start their journey, outlining the steps they can take. Creative jobs almost by definition are unique and while the guides can help people reach their goals, there are so many ways to approach any creative endeavour.
My goal with The BiFrost is to help facilitate anyone wanting to start their creative journey. Part of this, I’ll admit, is my own selfish desire to experience more creativity in my life. Helping people share their skills, dreams and talents excites me. The rest of me wants to prevent anyone from having to go through the freak out that I went through.
With this in mind, the BiFrost will help me gain the contacts and information to build something bigger. What that is, I’m not sure yet, though I have some ideas. Facilitating networking, creative consultancy, mentoring and even creative recruiting are all possibilities for the future of this project and I am excited to see where it goes.
